Executor is a relatively young lure. Salmo introduced it to its offer in 2004. Rapidly the lure found its devotees and is still having a lot of popularity. And there is nothing strange in it, almost everyday some angler in one of European country expects a lot of joy with the fish caught by the crank called Executor. And what is equally important, very often it is a specimen size one!

Executor is a typical crankbait. Plastic lip creates the diving of the lure and its characteristic, energetic action. It is characterised by medium, not very strong tail action and strong ‘blinking’ action. Such an action proved to be extremely succesful and, on many occassions, is much better than others.

Fishing with Executor is easy and funny, as even though its action is well felt on the rod tip, the lure is not creating strong resistance during the retrieve. Thanks to that, with some skill, we are able to force this lure to real equilibristics in the water. The knowledge of such „special techniques” profits especially during the times that predators are not active.

Lure is manufactured in two versions – Shallow Runner (SR) and Deep Runner (DR). Executors lure family consist of only floating models with length of 5 and 7 and, from the season 2009, also 9 and 12 cm.

To fish with Executor –

no special tackle is required. Every rod that suits You well, equipped with a light reel with a smooth drag will do the job well. For the larger models of Executor we can easily use baitcasting tackle (casting rod with multiplier) but of course it is not essential.

The never – ending braid vs mono dilemma must be decided by each angler himself. Generally it does not have influence on fish takes. But as with every rule there are some exceptions too, such as fishing for species with a very good sight (f.x. trout or chub) in clean still or slowly flowing waters. Many times angling practice proved that mono line is much better on such occassions. What should be the line diameter?

Of course, in some cases it is possible to use stronger line than recommeded. But it has to be remembered to adjust the treble and split rings’ strength to the line in such cases. Usually the manufacturer is blamed when fish is lost, when it managed to straight the hooks on to heavy tackle. But it is the knowledge of strength of the tackle that we use, that is the basic of successful fishing.

No matter of the size of the lure or the strength of the tackle Executors will perform excellent -

in different condition and on different fisheries.

All models of the Executor family perform excellent on any speed of retrieve – from the slowest to the fastest. Thanks to that they are so good, no matter if used on stillwaters or rivers with fast current.

Super Deep Runners version (with extra long lip) dive around twice as deep as Shallow Runners (with short lip). Both versions are excellent on places with the depth between 0,5 – 3m. They are the most often visited by anglers places – shorelines on the lakes and shallow rivers and streams.

On stillwaters we fish Executors traditionally – by retrieving the lure with various speed. Excellent results can be achieved by stopping the retrieve and performing few sharp jerks with the rod tip. The lure jumps there wildly on its sides and then emerges slowly to the surface, imitating a victim which is sick and vulnerable, easy to catch. If the lure is observed by any predator, he will propably attack on such occassion.

All of the Executors are floating ones. So while on stillwaters it is worth to use it sometimes and after pausing the retrieve allow the lure to get close to the surface. If we fish over very overgrow nplaces, it is worth to allow the lure to reach the surface and lay still for a while, till the circles on the water finally disperse. All predators are very sensitive to what happens on the surface of the water. Small baitfish, that move in that area causing the turbulance on the surface, are easy prey to catch.

On large rivers a proven way of fishing is a slow retrieve across the current or downstream. But if we fish small rivers or streams the best is to cast your Executor to the other shore or upstream. Especially if we try to catch those cautious trouts.

Executor is an –

Excellent trolling lure.

All of the trolling techniques work well with them. As the table above shows, when using this method we can reach, depending on the Executors model, the depth between 1 and 5 metres. That is only exemplary data, of course. We have to remember, that the diving depth depends mostly on the type and diameter of the line, the distance of the lure from the boat and the boat speed. For example, if we use a thicker one than in the table, floating braid (most of the braids are floating) our executor will dive shallower. So the best idea is to check the diving  depth of each model on given conditions.

To reach greater depths it is necessary to use some extra weights. As with the other models of Salmo, it is the best to place the weight as far from the lure as possible. Proven system with triple barrel and the sinker on the extra trace. From the lure to the barrel it should be, depending on the size of Executor, 60 to 120cm, and a trace should be somewhere around 15 to 50cm. By the use of sinkers between 5 to 80 g we can reach the depth up to 20 metres.

From the time of introduction to the Salmo lure range, we received hundrets of informations and photos from anglers from around the world, with many specimen of different predators. There are not many lures that proved themselves to be so

Effective on so many fish species.

Only the best in their class cranks have such feature. Having the range of four sizes and two versions, plus the wide variety of colours we can easily plan our fishing for many species of predator fish in any fishery. As always, the success is based on choosing proper size of the lure as well as its proper presentation.

Proper size is the one, that suits the size of prey preferred by the predators on a given fishery,

in given moment. It is worth to use a larger model, to increase our chances for a meeting with a real specimen.

Also the presentation of the lure must be adapted to the feeding tactics of predators. For example – zanders most of the time hunt for prey close to the bottom and are well known for not being interested in victims moving to fast. But there are, as always, exceptions.

When fishing large rivers during warm, summer nights, that milky – eyed predators feast on baitfish close to the shore, on water around half a metre deep! That is where we should cast the Executor 5SR.

Pikes, on the other hand, are worth to be tempted by the crank presented in the most varied way. It is very effective, to jerk the Executor with short pauses. To catch a specimen of this species it is worth to use the largest Executor.

When we fish for asps, usually a very fast pace works fine. And it does not matter whether we fish with spinning or we are trolling. The same goes with perches. There are occassions that they are completly not interested in a slowly moving lure, but react with an instant attack for the maximum speed we can present our lure at!

Colour of the lure is important, but we should not exaggerate that factor. The best situation to observe „the power of colour” is in the conditions of unusual light. In poor light conditions (muddy water, cloudy day, or dusk, or dawn) it is worth to experiment with „fluo” based colours, such as RHP or GT, or very contrast colours, such as RH or GOS. But if the water has high clarity, the best will be natural colours like D, RR, RPH, T.

Executor is a versatile and universal lure. But it is always a good idea to experiment, because nobody created a reliable receipe to fish any lure. The best knowledge of the lure, without knowledge of the spot and the species would not give us wanted results.
